3rd September 2021
Blackpool’s biggest night of the year, the Switch On is the most historic and enduring event in the resort’s calendar. Every year, tens of thousands of people descend on Blackpool to watch their favourite music artists perform before the Blackpool Illuminations are switched on for another season. Blackpool Illuminations & LightPool
September 3rd – November 7th 2021
Billed as ‘the greatest free light show on Earth’, the Illuminations attracts millions of people to Blackpool each year. New features to be added in recent years, include LightPool – part of which is the digital mapping of the Tower, which transforms the attraction into a light show in its own right.
World Fireworks Championships
September 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th
The Tower Festival Headland will again host the annual displays, spread across consecutive Fridays in September. Featuring some of the best in the business, the displays are free to watch.

Blackpool Armed Forces Week
June 21st – 38th 2021
During this week the town comes together with a range of events and special offers for members of the armed forces and their families. The activities include free concerts, exhibitions, military and ceremonial tributes.

Blackpool Air Show
13th & 14th August 2021
Since Blackpool hosted the first official air show in 1909, crowds have enjoyed being wowed by aerial displays. The world-famous Red Arrows will return to the resort in August and this year, the two-day event has moved to a weekend slot taking place over a Saturday and Sunday. The air show is free to attend and showcases the finest military and civilian aircraft over Blackpool’s golden sands.

Blackpool Ride the Lights
August 25th 2021
Thousands of riders will travel along the Promenade for a sneak preview of the 2018 Illuminations, days before their official switch-on. The six-mile traffic-free course, is suitable for all ages and abilities. Riders will have another opportunity this year to detour through Blackpool Pleasure Beach before joining the crowds on the promenade.

Featuring award-winning events, the packed schedule features a range of free events and festivals that include summer staples such as the air show and Ride the Lights. Coun Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council said: “We offer an excellent free events calendar in Blackpool every year enabling as many people as possible to enjoy this fabulous resort. “It makes no difference whether you are a resident or a visitor because these events are for everyone and we pride ourselves on ensuring they appeal to as wide an audience as possible. “It is very rare to find a town with so many large scale free events and it is very easy to take them for granted but a huge amount of work is carried out by the VisitBlackpool team to ensure our events are the best every time.” In addition, the resort will host a range of entertainment, with hit shows including Sister Act, Hairspray and Evita coming to the Winter Gardens. - The opening of The Boulevard, a stylish new seafront hotel, bar and restaurant at Blackpool Pleasure Beach
- A brand new Dr Who exhibition at Madame Tussauds with a remarkably lifelike figure of Jodie Whittaker as the programme’s first ever woman doctor
- New shows and festivals including Jason Manford’s Comedy Festival; American Idiot; Little Miss Sunshine; Motown The Musical; Kinky Boots and Dr Dolittle The Musical.

“2018 saw huge investment at Blackpool Pleasure Beach with its breath-taking ICON rollercoaster and at Blackpool Zoo with its new state-of-the-art elephant facility. 2021 sees even more to come.
